Korite's Oxbow Ammolite mine, now closed, yielded much of the Ammolite gems used by Korite during the 1990's. The extensive operation involved moving a huge amount of material in a controlled manner so that it could eventually be used to recontour
the site with minimal impact.
The mine site was reclaimed and returned to it's original state using native plants consisting of Pascopyrum smithii, Bouteloua gracilis, Koeleria macranta, Elymus canadensis & Elymus trachycaulus. These plants are important to the area as food for large mammals (various species of deer and antelope) found in the area, small mammals and birds that make this region their home.
Today the reclaimed site seamlessly blends into the surrounding area, providing a continuous habitat for the animals that populate this unique ecosystem. Korite is proud of it's environmental record and proud to be able to show this reclaimed site to you.
